College of Arts and Sciences Dean
John A. Pelesko has announced new leadership in the College and welcomed new
faculty members this academic year.
In the deans office, Suzanne L. Burton,
professor of music education, was named associate dean for the arts, and Lauren
Hackworth Petersen, professor of art history, was named associate dean for the
humanities. Both had been serving in those associate dean roles in an interim
capacity.
They each offer our College and their portfolios much in
terms of their leadership and hard work, Pelesko said. They join David C.
Wilson, senior associate dean for the social sciences, and Murray Johnston,
associate dean for the natural sciences, on the deans administrative staff.
Pelesko also welcomed new department chairs and school
directors: Peter Benson, Anthropology; Mark Gockenbach, Mathematical Sciences;
and Mark Clodfelter, School of Music. He called all the new appointees fantastic
leaders.
Because of COVID health and safety precautions, CAS will not
hold its usual reception this fall for new faculty, but Pelesko welcomed them
and encouraged all faculty and staff members to meet and learn about their new
colleagues through this booklet.
He also congratulated Lou Rossi, formerly chair of the Department of
Mathematical Sciences, on his recent appointment as dean of the Graduate College and
vice provost for graduate and professional education.
